Public Health Week: 6 Ways to Prevent the Spread of Infectious Disease

Infectious Diseases can lead to large-scale emergencies, such as Pandemic Influenza, so it is important to know how to stay safe. With this being Public Health Week, here some ways to prevent the spread of infectious disease from the Philadelphia Department of Public Health:
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick. When you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too.
  • If possible, stay home from work, school, and errands when you are sick. You will help prevent the spread of the illness.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.
  • Wash your hands and practice good hygiene.
  • Regularly clean surfaces that are touched by multiple people.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs are often spread when a person touches something that is contaminated with germs and then touches their face.
