The Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management is tracking an early season nor'easter coastal storm that will affect the area from Wednesday into Thursday. The National Weather Service in Mount Holly, NJ issued a Winter Storm Warning until 6:00 a.m. Thursday.
Expected Impacts:
- Rain/Flooding: Between 1 and 2 inches of rain is expected between Wednesday morning and Thursday morning. This amount of rain is not expected to cause any flash flooding or flooding of the Schuykill River. Some flooding in poor drainage areas is possible.
- Snow: 3-5 inches of snow are possible. Snow accumulation is more likely on grassy areas and at higher elevations.
- Tidal Flooding: Minor tidal flooding is possible at high tide along the Delaware River, but this will have minimal impacts.
- Wind: Sustained winds of 20-25 mph are possible, with gusts up to 35 mph.
Be Prepared:
- Power outages are possible. Have a battery-powered radio, flashlights, extra batteries, and blankets ready. Report downed power lines and power outages to PECO at 1-800-841-4141. For more information, visit the Utility Interruption page.
- Have a Home Emergency Kit with non-perishable food, water, first-aid kit, comfort items and be ready to Shelter-in-Place.
- If you used any supplies during Hurricane Sandy, make sure to replenish those items before this storm hits.
- Due to the weather, the Philadelphia International Airport advises folks to check the status of their flight with their airline or at 1-800-PHL-GATE.
