On September 24, the Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management held a Pledge to Prepare Day at Grover Washington Jr. Middle School, along with its National Preparedness Month partners the American Red Cross, Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter and Target.
Pledge to Prepare Day capped off the “Be Disaster Safe” lessons conducted for fifth and eighth grade students at the school by the Office of Emergency Management using the Red Cross Masters of Disasters curriculum.
During the ceremony, Deputy Mayor Everett Gillison and the other officials recognized the work of the students and their parents to develop Family Emergency Plans for their households.
Target presented checks to the Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management and the American Red Cross, Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter for funds used during National Preparedness Month. The Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management used its funds from Target to purchase family emergency supply kits to be given to the first 250 students who completed a Family Emergency Plan.
