Attend this workshop for a hands-on practical experience of IPM for vegetable growers on Thursday, June 6 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm in Rayville, MO. The field day will demonstrate the integration of trap cropping with chicken tractors as a non-chemical way of controlling cucumber beetles and squash bugs in cucurbits. Selected cover crops, pheromone pest trapping and monitoring, and other IPM methods will also be showcased. Rocky Creek Valley Farm is the recipient of a 2013 NCR SARE Farmer and Rancher grant titled “Chickens and Trap Crops – An integration of sustainable approaches to insect pest control in vegetable production”. NCR SARE’s Farmer Rancher Grant Program is a competitive grants program for farmers and ranchers who want to explore sustainable solutions to problems through on-farm research, demonstration, and education projects.
